Why are there two certificates for the child abuse course?

So you received a letter from Advantedge Education…Image of an envelope sent by Advantedge Education

Lucky you! How often do we get hand-addressed letters these days? Personalized service is something we strive to deliver, but we have noticed growing confusion over why we mailed you something in the first place.

If you completed the Child Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training in NYS course, you received an official documentation form by mail, or if you live overseas, you received an electronic version. Advantedge Education is an approved New York State provider for child abuse recognition and reporting and such as, we are required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to send this form to you. This is true! We have a contract.

Mail the form to NYSED.

Follow the instructions provided in the letter and be certain to keep one of the copies of the official certification document for your records. Depending on your profession, you only need to take this course one time so you’ll want to keep a copy of the certification indefinitely. You should visit the New York State Office of the Professions if you have questions about your mandatory course requirements.

The mandated reporter training course has two certificates.

Yes! You did receive two certificates for completing the mandated reporter training course. The course hours certificate is available from your student account and can be used for continuing education credit. The official documentation for “additional” proof of completing this mandatory New York State requirement is mailed to you (or emailed if you live overseas). Why? The mandated reporter training course is a one-time requirement, and therefore the certification doesn’t expire. Since the course mandate comes from a different office – Office of Children and Family Services – the official form is an additional record requirement for course providers.

Be certain to visit the New York State Office of the Professions for additional information about your training requirements.

On the other hand, the infection control course has only one certificate.

If you’re licensed in New York as a healthcare professional, you probably also completed the Infection Control Training for Healthcare Professionals in NYS course. This certificate is available directly from your student account which you can access/print at any time. Sadly, you won’t receive any mail from us in regard to the infection control and barrier precautions course. There is only one certificate! Unlike the child abuse course, the infection control course needs to be completed once every 4 years while you are actively licensed in New York.

Advantedge Education sends your results to NYSED

Regardless of whether you completed the mandated reporter training course or the infection control and barrier precautions course or both, your records are sent via secure FTP every evening at 5:30pm EST to the NYSED. This service is complimentary with your course registration.

So there you have it, everything you never knew you wanted to know about why the Child Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training in New York State course has two certificates! As always, if you have any questions or would like to share feedback about your experiences on our site, we’d love to hear from you.
