Two Certificates for Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter Course (UPDATED)

Did you receive mail from Advantedge Education? If you live within the 48 contiguous United States and completed the Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect online course, you received an additional document in the mail that is specific for this course. As an approved New York State provider for child abuse recognition and reporting, we are required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to send this form to you.

Are you from Hawaii, Alaska, or outside the United States? See the section below regarding electronic copies.

What should you do with the “official” certification form?

Follow the instructions provided in the letter. Two identical copies of the certification form were provided. One copy should be sent directly to the NYSED, but only if they contact you for proof of completion. Keep the copies in a safe place with all your other professional development documents relating to licensure and certification. We also recommend that you scan or take a picture of the form so you have an electronic backup.

Depending on your profession, New York requires that you satisfy this requirement once so plan on keeping a copy of the certification indefinitely. The certification does not expire. However, we often hear from individuals who work in K-12 settings that they are required to take the course annually because of the population they work with. You should consult with your employer and visit the New York State Office of the Professions if you have questions about your mandatory reporter course requirements.

Can I receive the document electronically instead?

Participants from Hawaii, Alaska, and other locations outside the 48 contiguous United States will be sent an electronic copy to the email address associated with their course completion. The email will contain instructions and a PDF version of the State Education Department Certification of Completion.

Note: Other participants may also contact us to request an electronic copy instead of receiving two copies in the mail. Those requests should be made via email to support@edgelearn.com and as quickly as possible. We process the certification forms 2-3 times per week.

The child abuse mandated reporter training course has two certificates.

Yes, you should have received two certificates for completing the mandated reporter training course. One is a continuing education (CE) certificate and the other is the State Education Department Certification of Completion. Please note that most of our courses only have one certificate.

Continuing education credit is provided for physicians, nurses, and psychologists. This activity is designated for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, 2.5 ANCC Contact Hours, or 2.5 APA CE Credits. All other professions will receive a certificate of completion. You should consult your professional licensing or certification board for information on the acceptance of continuing education credit designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. The CE certificate can be accessed at any time from your student account.

Want to learn more about claiming CE credit? Visit the mandated reporter course info page.

The infection control course has only one certificate.

If you are licensed in New York as a healthcare professional, you are required to complete the Infection Control and Barrier Precautions for NY Healthcare Professionals course every four years. If you completed the infection control course through edgelearn.com, this certificate is available directly from your student account. Head to the Grades section where you can view/print the certificate at any time. There is only one certificate! The NYSED does not require an additional certification form for the infection control course.

Advantedge Education automatically sends your records to NYSED.

Regardless of whether you completed the mandated reporter training course or the infection control and barrier precautions course or both, your completion records are sent via secure FTP every evening at 5:30pm EST to the NYSED. This service is included with every New York mandated course registration.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to share feedback about your experiences on our site, we’d love to hear from you.
